Fenerbahce vs Konyaspor Match Analysis & Prediction
10/01/2024 8:00 pm
Fenerbahce will be looking for the win that will maintain their lead at the top of the Turkish Super Lig standings when they host Konyaspor on Wednesday night.
The first half of the 2023-24 Super Lig season quickly turned into a two-horse race between Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, with both teams breaking away from the chasing pack, already 14 points clear of Trabzonspor in third position.
Fenerbahce kicked off 2024 with a trip to relegation favourites Istanbulspor and rattled five goals while conceding one to remain atop the league standings with a +8 goal differential over Galatasaray.
Ismail Kartal’s side have been formidable at home this season, picking up 22 points from a possible 29, and are unbeaten in their last three with two wins and a draw.
Meanwhile, after going unbeaten in their first four league matches this season, Konyaspor hit a rough patch between mid-September and mid-November when they went eight matches without a win, including six defeats and two draws.
That run of results not only saw the team slip into the relegation zone but also played a major role in the club’s decision to sack Serbian coach Aleksandar Stanojevic at the back end of October.
Hakan Keles was appointed as the new manager on October 27, and after failing to win any of his first three games in charge, the former Giresunspor boss secured his first victory at the end of November after overcoming Kasimpasa, and ended the year positivel with another three points beating Kayserispor on Christmas Eve.
Five points from a possible 12 in December saw Konyaspor move out of the bottom four, but a 3-0 defeat to Galatasaray in midweek leaves them level with Samsunspor, who are the first team below the dotted line, on 18 points apiece.
Fenerbahce vs. Konyaspor Head to head
In the 47 previous meetings between these two teams, Fenerbahce have claimed 35 victories while Konyaspor have won nine, and they have drawn in three. Konyaspor have scored 49 goals and conceded 117 in the process.
