Union Berlin vs Bochum Match Analysis & Prediction

Both aiming to take a huge step towards top-flight safety, Union Berlin and VfL Bochum will meet at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei on Sunday in the Bundesliga.
Since returning from the first international break of 2024 in late March, Union Berlin have endured a concerning five-game winless run in the Bundesliga, meaning that their place in the top-flight is under serious threat heading into the final three matches of the season.
That being said, Union Berlin did manage to halt a three-game losing run last Sunday when they travelled to Borussia Monchengladbach, with both Moritz Nicolas and Frederik Ronnow keeping clean sheets in the game as the two sides played out a goalless draw.
Heading into the final three matches of the league season, Nenad Bjelica’s side currently occupy 14th position in the Bundesliga standings, two points ahead of Mainz 05 who sit in the relegation playoff spot.
Union will be pleased that two of their three remaining matches are scheduled to be played at their Berlin base, with Die Eisernen securing six of their eight Bundesliga victories in front of their home supporters this season.
Meanwhile, following an eight-game winless run in the Bundesliga stretching back to late February, Bochum gave their hopes of avoiding relegation to Bundesliga 2 a huge boost last Friday when they beat Hoffenheim 3-2 at Vonovia Ruhrstadion.
Bochum raced into a three-goal lead after just 64 minutes through Kevin Stoger’s brace and a second of the season for right-back Felix Passlack, and although a second-half double from Andrej Kramaric made things interesting during the closing stages, the hosts held on valiantly for three points.
Having lost just three matches at Vonovia Ruhrstadion in the Bundesliga this season, Bochum’s away form is the primary reason behind their serious struggles at the bottom of the division, with Heiko Butscher’s side collecting just seven points on the road so far, fewer than any of their top-flight counterparts.
Due to an inferior goal difference when compared to Union Berlin, Bochum sit just below this weekend’s hosts in 15th position, with a win potentially enough for either side to rubber-stamp their spot in the Bundesliga for the next campaign.
Union Berlin vs. Bochum Head to head
In the previous 25 meetings between these two teams, Union Berlin have claimed 12 victories while Bochum have won nine, and they have drawn in four. Bochum have scored 34 goals and conceded 37 in the process.

Union Berlin Team News
Union Berlin remain without the services of left-back Jerome Roussillon, who suffered a calf injury at the end pf March and has failed to feature since.
In the absence of the Frenchman, Robin Gosens is highly likely to retain his place on the left-hand side of a back five on Sunday.

After picking up his 10th yellow card of the Bundesliga season against Hoffenheim, Anthony Losilla will be unavailable for Bochum this weekend.
The visitors are light of options in their goalkeeping department, with both Michael Esser and 25-year-old Niclas Thiede currently on the sidelines.
