Hatayspor vs Gaziantep FK Match Analysis & Prediction
10/01/2024 5:00 pm
Two teams separated by just one point in the bottom half of the Turkish Super Lig table meet on Wednesday as Hatayspor welcome Gaziantep FK to the Mersin Stadium.
While the hosts will be looking to end their run of six league matches without a win, the visitors set out in search of a second successive away victory for the first time this season.
Hatayspor failed to win any of their last five league matches in 2023, picking up two draws and losing three, including a 2-1 defeat to Besiktas on Christmas Day.
A lack of incisiveness in attack has coincided with their poor run of form and that was highlighted in their first game on the new year as they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Caykur Rizespor.
Volkan Demirel’s side, who have now scored just one goal in their last four matches – having netted nine in the four games preceding this run – are currently 15th in the league standings, just one point above the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, Gaziantep were left disappointed in their first game of the year as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Pendikspor after squandering a two-goal lead in the final 13 minutes of the game.
However, the draw against Pendikspor means Gaziantep have now gone three successive league matches without defeat for the first time since August 2022, when they kicked off the 2022-23 campaign with three wins and one draw in the opening four matches.
Marius Sumudica’s side have now picked up six wins and two draws in their 18 league matches to collect 20 points and sit 14th in the standings, level with Istanbul Basaksehir and Ankaragucu.
Hatayspor vs. Gaziantep FK Head to head
In the 28 previous meetings between these two teams, Hatayspor have claimed eight victories while Gaziantep have won 15, and they have drawn in five. Gaziantep have scored 51 goals and conceded 42 in the process.
