Wolverhampton Wanderers will look to maintain their momentum when they host an in-form Championship side Sheffield United at Molineux Stadium in the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday evening with kickoff at 18:00.
Indeed both sides are in good shape and form ahead of the Sunday’s clash with Wolves heading into the match on the back of a three-match unbeaten run and they started the New Year with a famous and confidence-boosting victory over Manchester United, with Joao Moutinho’s strike in the 82nd minute earning Wolves their first away win against the Red Devils.
Bruno Lage’s side have also been solid at the back in the run as they kept clean sheets in all the three matches, including that win over Man United and a respectable 0-0 draw against title-chasing Chelsea.
The form has been vital for the hosts as it has seen them rive into the eighth spot in the Premier League rankings with six points outside the top five and therefore a European push could on the cards.
Wolves will use the FA Cup fixture to keep their momentum going ahead of a challenging second half start to their Premier league campaign.
Meanwhile Sheffield United head into the match on the back of a four-match winning streak in Championship against Reading, Bristol City, Cardiff city and high-profiles Fulham. The run has raised them up into the 13th spot in the standing and are now closer to the playoffs than the relegation zone.
They have been working hard to rebuild their campaign under Paul Heckingbottom who replaced Slavisa Jokanovic who led them in a poor start to the season, and claiming a Premier League scalp in the cup will only increase confidence that they could still salvage something from 2021-22 campaign.
However, that will not be an easy exam as they have lost their last four FA Cup games against top-flight opposition and have been knocked out on each of their last three occasions they have faced Wolves in the cup.
