Both Tunisia and Mauritania will be looking to get their AFCON campaigns up and running when they go toe to toe in their second Group E match on Sunday evening with kickoff at 19:00.
Both sides will head into the match desperate for all three points following their opening-day defeats against Mali and Gambia respectively, with Tunisia denied a winning start to their 15th consecutive AFCON appearance as they fell to a narrow 1-0 loss to Mali on Wednesday in a dramatic and highly controversial fixture.
Meanwhile Mauritania were also denied their dream start to the Africa Cup of Nations as they fell to 1-0 defeat to the competition’s debutants Gambia. Didier Gomes Da Rosa’s side clearly dominated the match recording 20 attempts compared to eight from their opponents, but failed to create any goal-scoring chances.
Both sides will no doubt be worried and upset with how their opening fixtures went and will now be looking to bounce back with a victory on Sunday, with Tunisia looking to restore their momentum and avoid an early exit from the competition while Mauritania will be looking advance to the knockout stages in their second-ever appearance in the tournament.
However, Tunisia will fancy their chances having not lost to Mauritania in their last eight meetings claiming five victories in the run and the last time the two met Tunisia cruised to a comfortable 5-1 victory.
