Tanzania will host Algeria at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in their second round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers in Group F on Wednesday.
Both sides made decent starts to the their respective qualifying campaigns with Tanzania holding Niger to a 1-1 draw on Saturday. George Mpole Mwaigomole gave the Taifa Stars an early lead in the first minute, before Niger levelled the scores in the 26 through Daniel Sosah.
The Taifa Stars now sit second on one point behind group leaders and favorites Algeria, and will hope for a similar result on Wednesday. However they have lost three of their last four meetings against Algeria and it will take a lot of effort to overcome leaders in the clash.
The Desert Warriors, on the other hand opened with a comfortable 2-0 over Uganda at home last Saturday. They now lead Group F on three points and will be looking to continue leading the group with another positive result on Wednesday.
Having missed out on the AFCON glory last edition and having failed to qualify for the World Cup finals in Qatar later this year, Algeria will feel they have a point to prove in this competition and thus will head into the clash all fired for all three points. They warmed up with a 1-0 win over Niger last Monday and will fancy their chances in the Wednesday’s clash.
