Shenzhen’s bid to secure an AFC Champions League Qualification spot for next season is set to be put to test again in their Wednesday’s game at Junjiang Sports Center against Wuhan Yangtze, who currently find themselves in the relegation zone.
The hosts are currently sitting in 14th place in the league table on 30 points, having scored 28 goals and conceded 52 so far this season.
With seven games remaining, Shenzhen trail third-placed Zhejiang Professional by 19 points for a spot in the AFC Champions League Qualifiers.
Zhang Xiaorui’s side head into the contest off the back of a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Wuhan Three Towns in their last Chinese Super League match at the Jinjiang Football Training Center Stadium.
Marcao (2), Ademilson and Deng Hanwen were all on target for the fisrt-placed visitors to ensure that Shenzhen came out empty handed on home ground.
When these two sides last met in Chinese Super League action, Shenzhen came out on top 3-0 at Dongxihu Sports Centre in September. Li Yuang opened the scoring for Shenzhen in the 33rd minute, while Zhang Yuan II and Jiang Zhipeng also found the back of the net.
Meanwhile, Wuhan Yangtze head into midweek off the back of a 5-0 defeat at the hands of Shandong TaiShan at Jinan Olympic Sports Center Stadium, extending their league losing run to three to leave them 17th in the table on 12 points, three points adrift of safety with seven games remaining.
Cryzan opened the scoring for Shandong TaiShan in the fifth minute before Chen Pu and Moises netted in the 19th and 35th minutes respective to ensure the hosts headed into half time with a 3-0 lead. Abudulam Abdurasul and Guo Tianyu also got on target in the 68th and 79th minutes to wrap up the game 5-0.
