Las Palmas vs Real Betis Match Analysis & Prediction
16/05/2024 8:30 pm
Real Betis will have the chance to secure European qualification when they travel to Estadio de Gran Canaria to face Las Palmas in La Liga on Thursday night.
Having collected 55 points from 35 matches, the visitors are currently occupying sixth position, while the hosts are down in 14th place with 37 points to their name.
After picking up 35 points from 24 matches, Las Palmas were sitting in eighth position and looking well set to achieve a top-half finish in their first La Liga campaign since 2017-18.
However, they have since experienced a significant drop-off, losing nine of their last 11 matches since securing their most recent win over Valencia on February 10.
In fact, Las Palmas have lost each of their previous eight matches after their poor run of form continued with a narrow 1-0 defeat in Saturday’s away encounter with Mallorca.
Garcia Pimienta will be concerned by the fact that his side failed to score in seven of those eight games, with their only goal in the run coming in last month’s 4-1 defeat to Celta Vigo.
Despite enduring a woeful run of results, the 14th-placed side still boasts a sizeable eight-point cushion to the relegation zone with just three games left to play against Betis, Cadiz and Alaves.
Meanwhile, Real Betis will head into the contest in a confident mood after bouncing back from four successive defeats to put together a five-game unbeaten run.
Pablo Fornals, Isco and Ayoze Perez all got on the scoresheet to fire Betis to a 3-2 victory in Sunday’s home encounter with bottom side Almeria, moving them into sixth position with three games left to play against Las Palmas, Real Sociedad and Real Madrid.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side have established an eight-point advantage over Valencia and Villarreal in eighth and ninth places respectively, and they will guarantee European football if they secure all three points on Thursday.
After winning their last two away matches against Valencia and Osasuna, Los Verdiblancos are hping to record three successive away league wins for the first time since January – February 2023.
