Motherwell vs St. Mirren Match Analysis & Prediction
17/12/2022 6:00 pm
The Scottish Premiership resumes this weekend after a hiatus due to the World Cup, and Motherwell will hope to move out of the relegation zone when it hosts St Mirren Saturday. The hosts are two points above the bottom two, while St Mirren could climb into fourth place with a win.
Motherwell has had a tough start to the Scottish Premiership campaign, winning just five of their opening 16 fixtures.
The last of those victories came in the league at the end of October, and the team went into this match following a four-match run without a win.
Three of those were defeats, including a 4-0 loss to Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur during the World Cup break.
While it typically benefits teams playing at home, Motherwell will be hoping for a change of fortunes at Fir Park this weekend as they have won only once at home so far.
The visitors will be hoping for a win, especially since a victory could lift them into fourth place if other results go their way.
However, they will need to improve upon the performance that saw them lose 1-0 against Motherwell on the season’s opening day.
The Steelmen finished that match with 10 men after Ricki Lamie was sent off in the second half, but a penalty from Kevin van Veen was enough to separate the teams that day.
Since then, St Mirren have kicked on, leading them to a midtable heading into the next section of the season.
Motherwell vs. St. Mirren Head to head
Both sides have three games against each other with the hosts taking two wins while the visitors still winless.

Motherwell Team News
Motherwell and Dundee United will likely field new squads this weekend after long breaks due to the World Cup. Both managers have had time to work on things behind closed doors, and both will be determined to get back on track immediately.
One player likely to retain his place in the starting lineup is van Veen, who has been a focal point in Motherwell’s attack throughout the season.

St. Mirren Team News
Trevor Carson will play in goal for St Mirren and be the Steelmen’s chief antagonist. Meanwhile, Richard Tait could also be an option for St Mirren, with the break from league action likely to have been enough time for his groin problem to be dealt with.
