Livingston vs St Mirren Match Analysis & Prediction
28/12/2022 10:45 pm
Livingston will be looking to put consecutive defeats behind them when they play host to St Mirren at the Tony Macaroni Arena in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday.
Only one point separates the two sides ahead of the contest, with the league table relatively tight as the season approaches its business end and 2023.
Livingston returned to action against Celtic at Celtic Park and suffered a 2-1 defeat, but David Martindale will be more concerned by the 4-0 loss suffered last time out away to Hibernian.
Although a 15th-minute Jason Holt red card did not help matters, Livingston performed below par to be four goals down within just 50 minutes and were lucky not to lose by an even greater margin at an Easter Road Stadium that was fully in the festive spirit.
Back-to-back defeats have left Livingston eighth in the league standings having collected 23 points from their opening 17 matches, which means despite poor results of late, they still have a fighting chance of finishing inside the top six this season.
Meanwhile, St Mirren had to wait a little longer than their hosts on Wednesday to return to competitive actio after the World Cup, but quickly found their stride, defeating third-placed Aberdeen 3-1 at the SMISA Stadium.
Steve Robinson’s side are now three matches unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership and have shown their ability to match the best sides in the division so far this season, holding Rangers to a 1-1 draw just before the intenational break and handing Celtic their only defeat to date back in September.
The Saints struggles have mostly been experienced away from home, with St Mirren collecting just three points from six games in the league, a record that is severely hindering their chances of finishing in the top half during the regular season.
Livingston vs. St Mirren Head to head
St Mirren have been slightly better in meetings between these two sides, winning on 13 occasions while Livingston have won 11 times, and they have drawn in eight. Livingston have scored 43 goals and conceded 42 in the process.

Livingston Team News
Livingston will be without midfielder Holt after he was sent off in the defeat to Hibernian, with Stephane Omeonga a likely candidate to relace him in the starting lineup.
Martindale will be unable to call upon the services of both Tom Parkes and Jamie Brandon due to their knee and groin issues respectively.

St Mirren Team News
St Mirren’s veteran left-back Richard Tait is still sidelined after suffering a knock during his side’s 3-0 defeat to Hibernian late in October.
Ethan Erhahon was replaced during the half-time break by goalscorer Kiltie last time out, and he could lose his place in the starting XI for the Wednesday’s contest.
