Hibernian vs Celtic Match Analysis & Prediction
28/12/2022 11:00 pm
Current Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic will be looking to record a 12th successive league victory when the face Hibernian at Easter Road on Wednesday.
While the hosts sit nine points clear at the top of the league standings, Hibernian are down in seventh place despite getting back to winning ways last time out.
Four successive victories by one-goal margins preceded Celtic’s home match with St Johnstone last time out, and Ange Postecoglou would have demanded that his players put on a show against one of the division’s most improving sides.
The Australian got what he would have demanded, Celtic being four goals to the good by the 52nd minute before the visitors scored a consolation goal.
While Celtic’s clean sheet was extended to just one shutout in six matches, Postecoglou will not lingeer too much on that statistic as he and his side aim to damper any momentum which is growing elsewhere in Glasgow.
Meanwhile, Hibernian’s run of seven defeats from eight league matches has put Lee Johnson’s long-term future at the club in some jeopardy.
However, Hibs produced one of their most impressive performances of the season on Christmas Eve, claiming a 4-0 victory over Livingston.
Although the Edinburgh-based club were helped by an early sending off, scoring four times in 17 minutes either side of half time can only build confidence ahead of trying to pull off a surprise against the leaders.
Despite Hibernian’s recent poor form, they remain in the mix for third place, with just two points separating the teams between that position and eighth.

Celtic have dominated in the previous 94 meetings between these two teams across all competitions, claiming 59 victories while Hibernian have won 10, and they have drawn in 25. Celtic have scored 203 goals and conceded 81 in the process.

For the first time in several matches, Johnson will not feel encouraged to make any unnecessary changes to his Hibernian starting lineup.
He was also able to rest players during the second half against Livingston, and the same XI should start here, while Mykola Kukharevych could feature among the replacements.

Celtic Team News
Having had the opportunity to rest players during the final half-hour against St Johnstone, Postecoglou may opt to keep the same Celtic XI.
The hosts will have to make do without David Turnbill after the midfielder was sent off after being introduced as a substitute in the last game.
