Famalicao vs Portimonense Match Analysis & Prediction
21/04/2024 5:30 pm
Seeking to secure successive away victories for the first time since September, Portimonense travel to face Famalicao at the Estadio Municipal 22 de Junho on Sunday.
Famalicao were condemned to their first home loss since January last Tuesday when the suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to title-chasing Sporting Lisbon at home.
Despite their midweek result, Armando Evangelista’s side are well on course to finish in the top half of the table in what has been another solid campaign, having secured an eighth-placed finish last season.
The Vila Nova have picked up 35 points from their 29 matches so far – nine shy of last season’s tally – to sit eighth in the Primeira Liga standings, one point above ninth-placed Casa Pia with five games left to play.
However, Famalicao will have to show their mettle this weekend as they face an opposing side who are unbeaten in 12 of their last 13 encounters, securing nine wins and three draws since March 2016.
Meanwhile, Portimonense were left spitting feathers last Monday when they were held to a 2-2 draw by 10-man Casa Pia after squandering a two-goal lead at the Estadio Municipal de Portimao.
In a game that Beni Mukendi received his marching orders, Tamble Monteiro and Alemao scored inside the opening half hour to put the hosts ahead, but goals from Yuki Soma and Nermin Zolotic helped Os Gansos force a share of the spoils.
Paulo Sergio’s side have now collected 27 points from 29 matches to sit 16th in the league standings, one point behind 15th-placed Estrela Amadora just above the relegation zone.
Portimonense’s underwhelming campaign has been due to their struggles at the defensive end of the pitch, where they currently hold the division’s poorest record, having conceded the highest number of goals so far (62).

In the 14 previous meetings between these two teams, Famalicao have claimed two victories while Portimonense have won nine, and they have drawn in three. Portimonense have scored 17 goals and conceded 11 in the process.
