Croatia U21 and Romania U21 only have pride to play for as they prepare to meet for their final Group B match at the European U21 Championship on Tuesday.
Both teams have already been eliminated from the tournament, with Croatia third in the section on zero points, while Romania have also failed to collect a point from their opening two games.
Croatia opened their tournament with a 2-0 defeat to Ukraine before suffering a 1-0 loss to Spain on Saturday, with Abel Ruiz’s early goal proving decisive.
The Young Blazers have won just one of their last five matches, but that came in a 2-1 victory over England U21 in March, so they are capable of picking up big results.
Romania were eliminated in the group stage of the 2021 tournament, and they have also failed to make an impression in the 2023 edition of the competition.
They opened their Group A campaign with a 3-0 defeat to Spain before suffering a 1-0 loss to Ukraine on Saturday, which ended their hopes of reaching the knockout round.
Emil Sandoi’s side are winless since March 2022, losing six of their last eight matches across all competitions, but they will be determined to end their tournament on a positive note.
