Barcelona vs Osasuna Match Analysis & Prediction
11/01/2024 10:00 pm
Barcelona and Osasuna will both be looking to secure their spot in the Spanish Super Cup final when they meet in Saudi Arabia on Thursday night.
The Catalan giants enter the competition as the reigning La Liga champions, while Osasuna are competing in the Super Cup after finishing runners-up in last season’s Copa del Rey.
Barcelona head to Saudi Arabia looking to retain the trophy they won last season after they followed up a penalty-shootout victory over Real Betis with a 3-1 win against rivals Real Madrid in the final.
That success may have represented the first time Barca had won the competition since the four-team format was introduced in 2018-19, but they are the record winners of the Super Cup, having lifted the trophy on 14 occasions.
After ending 2023 with a 3-2 victory over Almeria, Barca have began the new year with two wins, scoring a stoppage-time winner to beat Las Palmas, before they secured a 3-2 Copa del Rey win against fourth-tier side Barbastro through goals from Fermin Lopez, Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski.
Meanwhile, Osasuna are looking forward to their first-ever appearance in the Super Cup after experiencing a memorable run to last season’s Copa del Rey final, before their dream of winning their first major trophy was ended by a 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid.
Los Rojillos did add three more points to their tally in their most recent league match against Almeria, before they recorded an extra-time Copa del Rey victory over second-tier side Castellon through Jose Arnaiz’s 118th-minute winner.
As the underdogs in the competition, Osasuna will need defensive resilience if they are to trouble Barcelona and secure their spot in Sunday’s final against either Real Madrid or Atletico Madrid.
Barcelona vs. Osasuna Head to head
In the 43 previous meetings between these two teams, Barcelona have claimed 27 victories while Osasuna have won six, and they have drawn in 10. Osasuna have scored 34 goals and conceded 104 in the process.
