Mauritania will host Sudan at Stade Olympique in the opening fixture of their Africa Cup of Nations campaign on Saturday night with kickoff at 22:00.
Following a poor AFCON campaign earlier this year that saw lose all their group matches, Mauritania will be looking to qualify for another edition of the competition and this time go through to the knockout stages.
They head into their opening fixture on the back of two victories against Mozambique (2-1) and Libya (2-0) in international friendlies back in March. They will be looking to build on that as they seek a positive start to the qualifying campaign.
Meanwhile Sudan also had a difficult campaign in the past AFCON finals finishing third in Group D with only one point from three games. They will now be looking to qualify for another edition of the competition, although they will need to be at their absolute best to advance form Group I.
They head into their opening fixture in a poor form having failed to win any of their last 13 games across all competitions and will be desperate to end that run on Saturday. Sudan claimed a 1-0 win the last time they met with Mauritania and will be looking to build on that as they seek a positive start.
