Malawi and Ethiopia will get their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign underway when they lock horns at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday.
The two have been drawn in Group D alongside Guinea and Egypt. Therefore, both Malawi and Ethiopia will be looking for a positive start in this tough group.
Malawi were eliminated in the round of 16 in last edition of the tournament by Morocco and will first be looking for a return to the competition’s next edition before doing better if they make it. With a home advantage Malawi will be looking to open positively here, although they only boast one victory from the last eight outings. Therefore, they need to be absolutely their best to get results on Sunday.
However, they are coming up against Ethiopia, who are also in a struggling form having won just one of their last 11 games in all competitions. Having also been eliminated in the group stages of the last AFCON finals, Ethiopia will need to pick themselves up at return with a bang.
Three points will important for either sides in the Sunday’s clash since taking points off Guinea and Egypt could be tricky.
