Both Haugesund and Viking will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they face off at the Haugesund Stadion in their Eliteserien Matchday 11 tie on Saturday evening.
Haugesund recorded a 1-1 draw against Tromsoe in their previous Eliteserien fixture on Sunday. Haugesund have now drawn all their last three league matches, while have failed to win in their last four.
The run has continued their poor start to the campaign as they have now just won two of their 11 league matches so far, and they sit 14th in the relegation-playoff spot on nine points, two points adrift of safety and two above Jerv in the 15th. Jerv have however played one game less than Haugesund, which keeps the pressure on Jostein Grindhaug’s side, who need a win to avoid being pulled further into relegation zone.
Although it’s a little early to start worrying about relegation, Haugesund will want to get as far away as possible to the danger zone. Therefore, Grindhaug’s troops will be head into the match with a win in mind, but will need to be at their best to get the better of Viking.
Viking suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Sandefjord in their last league clash on Sunday. They have now suffered back-to-back league defeats as they were previously coming off a 3-2 away defeat to Stroemsgodset.
The defeats extended their winless run in the Eliteserien to four matches now, which has seen them drop from second to third spot in the standings, where they sit on 21 points from 12 games, four points behind second-placed Molde and four above Stroemsgodset in fourth. Remember that Viking have played at least one much more than the rest of the Eliteserien.
Morten Jensen’s side now need to get their campaign back on the track as they seek to keep their European spot and also keep in touch with the top-two sides in the title. Viking beat Haugesund 5-1 last time they clashed in Eliteserien and will hoping for a similar result on Saturday, although they will need to work on their current form.
