Malawi will be looking to extend their Group D lead when they square off against Guinea in round two of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in group stage at the General Lansana Conte Stadium on Thursday.
Guinea kick started their 2023 AFCON Qualifiers on the back foot as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to Egypt at the Cairo International Stadium last Sunday. Guinea have now failed to win any of their last five games across all competitions, suffering three defeats in the run.
They will now be looking to return to winning ways as they seek to get their qualifiers on track. They will fancy their chances in the Thursday’s clash as they are unbeaten against Malawi in their last three meetings, picking up a draw and back-to-back victories in the run.
Malawi on the other hand, have opened their 2023 AFCON Qualifiers in a style as they claimed an impressive 2-1 win over Ethiopia last Sunday, with Gabadinho Mhango’s brace securing the three points. They now sit at the top of Group D, although level on three points with second-placed Egypt.
The Flames will therefore be looking to build on their opening victory as they seek to extend their lead in group. Also a win on Thursday will increase their chances of advancing to the continental showpiece for the second successive time.
