Both Guinea-Bissau and Sao Tome & Principe will be looking to open their 2023 Africa Cup of nations Qualifiers positively when they take on each other at the Stade Adrar on Thursday. The two have been drawn in Group A alongside Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
Guinea-Bissau will be looking to secure a second consecutive appearance in the AFCON finals, thus will seek to open the qualifiers on a winning note. They, however head into the match in a worrying form as they have only won just one of their last nine games and are coming off a 3-2 defeat to Angola back in March.
They will now be looking to bounce back to winning ways on Thursday as they aim at opening their qualifying campaign positively, and they will fancy their chances over Sao Tome & Principe, as they have won all the last two meetings between them with a 3-1 goal difference.
Meanwhile Sao Tome & Principe overcame Mauritius 4-3 on aggregate in the preliminary AFCON qualifying round back in March. They claimed a 1-0 victory in the first leg before the thrilling 3-3 draw in the second leg.
The results ended their six-match losing streak and they will be seeking to three games without a defeat for the first time in over a decade. They will however need to be at their best to get anything out of the clash and their away form is not encouraging, having failed to win on the road since 2019.
