Both Gambia and Mali will looking be to step one foot in the knockout stages of the ongoing AFCON when they lock horns at the Limbe Omnisport Stadium on Sunday afternoon with kickoff at 16:00.
Both sides got their AFCON campaigns on the front foot with Gambia marking their debut in the competition with a 1-0 victory over Mauritania last Wednesday and Tom Saintfiet’s men could not have wished for a better start on the biggest stage in African football, with Ablie Jallow opening the scoring in the 10th minute before keeping Mauritania at bay and holding on to their lead.
Meanwhile Mali did well to edge out the rampant Tunisia with a 1-0 win on the opening day, with Ibrahima Kone striking from the penalty spot in the 48th minute to give Mohamed Magassouba’s men the crucial opening three points over Tunisia in a game that was accompanied by bad officiating.
As things stand now in Group F both Gambia and Mali are at summit of the group and that means that both sides will be looking to overtake each other to the top spot and potentially sealing their place in the last 16.
However, Mali will fancy their chances as they are currently in a good form, having lost none of their last seven games across all competitions and are coming off a five-match winning streak.
Gambia vs Mali head to head
This will be the first meeting between the two in the recent times and considering the occasion we expect a close fight and entertaining match.
