Africa Cup on Nations host nation, Cameroon take on Comoros in the fourth fixture of round of 16 at the Olembe Stadium on Monday night with kickoff at 22:00.
With the crowd cheering them on Cameroon sealed through the group stage qualifying for the knockouts as Group A leaders with three points above both Burkina Faso and Cape Verde. They opened the competition impressively after completing a 2-1 comeback against Burkina Faso, then went on to beat Ethiopia in a 4-1 thriller in their next game, before wrapping up the stage with 1-1 draw against Cape Verde.
This is the third consecutive the Indomitable Lions are participating in the knockout stages of the competition and they will be looking to go all the way this time around having the advantage of being the tournament hosts this year.
Meanwhile Comoros did well to navigate through the group stage successfully on their debut in the competition. The new boys qualified as one of the best third nations after claiming three points in Group C two points above group rock bottom, Ghana.
Comoros will definitely never forget their debut campaign in Africa Cup of Nation after they went into their final group fixture with zero chances of advancing as they were rock-bottom on the table with zero points and were facing Ghana. But they stood their ground put up a strong fight eventually overcoming Ghana with a shocking 3-2 win, which saw them advance in the third place.
The newbies will be looking to extend their life in the competitions with another upset here, but with Cameroon’s form and host advantage it will be fascinating to watch this one unfold.
