On Wednesday evening, Tenerife and Las Palmas will meet in the semifinals of the Segunda Division playoffs. The first leg of the contest will be held at Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez, with kickoff at 10 pm.
Tenerife has been present in Spain’s Segunda Division since earning a promotion from the third tier in 2013. They last played in La Liga during the 2009-10 season, when they finished fifth.
Since then, the Canary Islands outfit has not threatened to earn promotion back to Spain’s top-flight over the last few seasons, finishing 11th, 16th, 12th, and 14th in the second tier; however, this season they managed to claim fifth place after picking up 69 points from their 42 games.
Tenerife ended their league campaign with three straight defeats to Malaga, Eibar, and FC Cartagena; however, they had enough credit in the bank to secure a position in the playoffs.
This term, Las Palmas have been very strong on its travels, collecting 26 points. The visitors will enter this match off the back of a 1-0 win over Sporting Gijon on Sunday, with Jonathan Viera scoring the contest’s only goal.
By securing fourth in the table, picking up 70 points from their 42 matches courtesy of a record of 19 wins, 13 draws, and 10 defeats, Las Palmas have cemented a spot in Europe next season.
