Eibar will welcome Girona to Ipurua Municipal Stadium for the second leg of their La Liga 2 Promotion Playoffs semi-final tie on Saturday night with kickoff at 19:30.

Eibar bounced back well, following their Segunda Division final day disappointment, with a 1-0 win victory over Girona in the first leg at away. Eibar missed out on an automatic promotion and the La Liga 2 title following a heartbreaking last minute from Giovanni Zarfino for Alcorcon in the final match of the regular season.

A draw could have been enough for Eibar to seal a direct promotion, but the defeat saw them finish third with a point behind both Almeria and Real Valladolid. However, Gaizka Garitano’s men still have a chance of securing a promotion to the top tier through the playoffs and are favorites here to make the finals.

They have a home and a one-goal advantage over Girona, and and should be confident heading into the clash, as they have good record over their opponents having now beaten them in each of their last seven games in all competition.

Girona missed out on a place in the top tier last season after losing to Rayo Vallecano in the final. This season they got lucky to finish in the playoffs, having finished level on points with seventh-placed Real Oviedo who just missed out.

They now head into the second leg of the semi-final with a deficit of one goal and at away. It is not impossible for Girona to overturn the table here, but it will take a lot of effort. The last time they visited the Ipurua Municipal they got beat 4-2 earlier this season.
