Southampton welcome West Ham United to St. Mary’s Stadium for their FA Cup fifth round tie on Wednesday night with kickoff at 22:30.
This is one of the two fixtures featuring Premier league opponents at this stage of the cup, with the other one being between Liverpool and Norwich City.
Southampton saw off Swansea City with a 3-2 away victory in regulation time of the third round, before knocking out Coventry City with a 2-1 home victory in the extra time of the fourth round.
The Saints now take on a fellow Premier League outfits in the last-16 and they will be looking to extend their run in the competition. They will fancy their chances as there are currently in a resurgent form in the Premier League having gone unbeaten in their last five league matches and are coming off 2-0 back-to-back home wins against Everton and Norwich City.
They will also draw confidence from their 3-2 victory over the Hammers in their previous league meeting at away and are also in a fine home form having won all their last three meetings at St Mary’s.
Meanwhile West Ham United opened their FA Cup campaign against fellow Premier League outfits Leeds in the third round, dispatching the Whites with a 2-0 home victory before also needing extra time to see off National League North outfits Kidderminster Harriers in the previous round.
They now ride out to take on another Premier League outfit in the fifth round and will need to dig deep if they are going to make it to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup for the first time since 2015.
