Both Solihull Moors and Chesterfield will have their eyes on EFL football next season when they lock horns in their National League playoff semifinal tie at Damson Park on Sunday afternoon with kickoff at 14:30 EAT.
Solihull Moors made a strong campaign in the National League this season, with the side finishing third on 87 points from 44 games, just a point behind second-placed Wrexham and seven behind league winners Stockport County. Their position meant that they get to have direct pass to the semifinals of the playoffs and a home advantage.
Neil Ardley’s side are one of the hot favorites to earn promotion to the EFL next season. They are currently flying high and head into the match on the back of a five-match winning streak, scoring 15 goals in the run. In fact, Solihull have only suffered one defeat in their last 13 games, with the loss coming against the champions Stockport County.
They also head into the fixture full of confidence from their 3-2 victory over Chesterfield last time they met in in the National League. They are also in a good home form having gone unbeaten in their last 10 matches at Damson Park, while winning all the last five at home. We are tempted to back them to book a place in the final at Wembley.
Meanwhile Chesterfield did well to clinch the last playoff spot in the National League after recording 74 points from 44 matches. They edged out Halifax Town 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the playoffs to book a place in the Sunday clash.
Chesterfield will be seeking a return to League Two after missing out in the last three seasons. Their general form is poor though, comparing with to their hosts, Chesterfield have now won just two of their last seven games, suffering four defeats in the run. They will therefore need to be at their absolutely best on Sunday if they are to stand any chance of advancing to the final.
