Shrewsbury and Port Vale will renew their rivalries when they face off at New Meadow in their second Northern Group C EFL Trophy tie on Tuesday night.
The two faced off last time out in League One last weekend, where Port Vale claimed a 2-1 win at home. Now both will face off again after three days in EFL Trophy where Shrewsbury need a victory following their 2-1 home defeat To Wolverhampton Wanderers U21 in the opening group fixture.
Shrewsbury now sit third in the group joint on zero points with rock-bottom Stockpot and they will be desperate to get their ELF Trophy campaign up and running as they seek to go deep into the competition. They face Port Vale a side that beat them on the weekend at away, but Shrewsbury have not lost to their Tuesday’s visitors in their last five encounters at home and will look to draw confidence from that.
Port Vale, meanwhile won their opening match beating Stockport 1-0 at home. They now sit second, jointly on three points with group leaders Wolves U21. They will now be looking to increase their chances of making out of the group stage when they take on Shrewsbury on Tuesday.
The visitors will be confident of building on their weekend win over their hosts. They have now won all their last three matches against Shrewsbury and they will want to keep the run on Tuesday, but they have not won at New Meadow in their last five visits and they will need to play on top of the game.
