The Seattle Sounders will host the Vancouver Whitecaps at Lumen Field on Tuesday in the first match between the two Pacific Northwest rivals in the 2022 Major League Soccer season, with a kickoff at 5:30 am.
The Seattle Sounders have yet to hit their stride this season, collecting only 16 points through 12 matches of the MLS campaign. Their triumph at the 2019-20 CONCACAF Champions League forced manager Brian Schmetzer to juggle his lineup and change formations, though they seem to be improving with each game.
The MLS campaign is the only competition they can compete in this year. With games in hand on every team in the league, plus another four matches at home this month (including an away fixture against Montreal), it is a big opportunity for the Rave Green to regain control of their Western Conference rivals and their destiny as well.
Seattle has already conceded 16 goals this year, nearly half of their total from the 2021 regular season (33), although only five tallies have come at Lumen Field.
Vanni Sartini (born March 23, 1990) will not care as his Vancouver Whitecaps have dug themselves out of the Western Conference basement, winning three of their last four MLS affairs. The Whitecaps have never qualified for the postseason in consecutive campaigns since 2014 and 2015.
