Both Sampdoria and Torino will be looking to make it back-to-back wins on the bounce when they lock horns in the second round of the Coppa Italia at the Luigi Ferraris on Thursday night with kickoff at 23:00.
Sampdoria have made as slow campaign this season with the club claiming five wins, three draws and nine defeats in their 17 Serie A matches, collecting 18points which have them occupying a place in the bottom half the 14th with eight points clear of relegation zone.
Roberto D’Aversa head into the match in an average form having won three and lost three of their last six Serie A matches. However, Sampdoria are coming off a 3-1 league success against Genoa at away last Sunday, with the win ending their back-to-back defeats against Fiorentina and Lazio in their previous fixtures.
Therefore Sampdoria will therefore be looking to build on their win as they aim at building their momentum as they aim at boosting their campaign with a deep Coppa Italia run. They managed to make it to this round of the competition after claiming a 3-2 victory over Serie B struggler Alessandria.
Meanwhile Torino have also endured a slow and difficult start to the season. They have only managed to claim six wins from their 17 Serie A matches while picking up four draws and seven defeats in the process and they also occupy a place in the bottom half, sitting just a place and four points above their Thursday’s hosts.
Ivan Juric’s side also head into the match in average form having won two, drawn and lost two of their last six league matches and are coming off a 2-1 Serie a success over Bologna at home last Sunday. The win saw them maintain a three-match unbeaten run while ending their three-match winless run in the process.
Torino will also be looking to make it back-to-back wins on that bounce as they aim at boosting their campaign with a deep Coppa Italia run. Torino’s path to Coppa Italia second round was not particularly straightforward as they were taken to penalties by Serie B side Cremonese following a 0-0 draw in the normal time.
Torino however, have been struggling on the road this season registering just one win in all competitions and Sampdoria will be keen to use that to their advantage.
