Coppa Italia unfolds on Tuesdays as two sides separated by just two points in the Serie A face each other when Inter Milan play host to AC Milan at San Siro Stadium in the second leg of the campaign semi finals. Kickoffs at 22:00 EAT.
After the quarter-final victory last year, under former coach Antonio Conte, the Nerazzurri then went on to claim the Scudetto ahead of their fiercest foes, and this term the pair have stayed locked in battle for the major prizes. Milan has kept a remarkable seven consecutive clean sheets, a run which began with that first-leg stalemate with Inter, although Pioli’s men have only netted five goals in that time.
Inter Milan come into this meeting confident following 1-3 Serie A win to beat Spezia in their last game. In that match, Inter Milan had 67% possession, 23 shots with seven of them on target and goals scored by Marcelo Brozović (31′), Lautaro Martínez (73′) and Alexis Sánchez (93′). Spezia got 10 shots with two of them on target and a goal by Giulio Maggiore.
Meanwhile, the five-times cup winners have lost only two of their last 19 home games in the Coppa, and though classed as the away team at San Siro this week, such a record should embolden Stefano Pioli’s side, who cruised through to this stage by beating Genoa and Lazio. After that first leg, Inter were on a five-match winless run and looked likely to drop out of Serie A contention, but Inzaghi’s men have since rebounded to trail Milan by just a single point, having played a game less.
AC Milan will be aiming for another win following 2-0 Serie A victory over Genoa in their last fixture. In that match, AC Milan had 59% possession, 10 shots with five of them on target and goals scored by Rafael Leão (11′) and Junior Messias (87′). Genoa got seven shots with only one of them on target.
