Red Star Belgrade will welcome Trabzonspor to Stadium Rajko Mitic for what is expected to be an interesting and crucial fixture in Group H of the Europa League on Thursday night.
Despite displaying better football in the Europa League, Red Star Belgrade have only managed to win one of their four Group H games, losing all the other three in the process.
They currently sit at the bottom of the group on three points, three points behind both Monaco and Trabzonspor in third and second respectively.
With two games still to go, Milos Milojevic’s side are still in contention for a place in the last 32 of the competition, although they will be aware that only a win in this fixture can keep them in contention for a top two finish.
They are coming off three consecutive victories in the Serbian Superliga and will be looking to draw confidence from the run as they aim for their second and crucial win in the Europa League.
Meanwhile Trabzonspor have won two and lost two of their four games in Group H and currently sit second in the group’s standings, level on six points with third-placed Monaco and three points off Ferencvaros at the summit.
With two fixtures remaining, Trabzonspor are still in contention for the top-spot finish in the group, but they will need to win both the remaining matches. Also they need a win on Thursday to ensure that they keep their second place in the group going into the final fixture.
Abdullah Mucib Avci’s side are coming off a confidence-boosting 1-0 win over Sivasspor in their domestic league campaign and will look to build on as they seek to better their chances of advancing to the knockout stages of the Europa League.
