Red Star Belgrade will begin their UEFA Champions League qualification campaign on the third round when they welcome Pyunik Yerevan to Stadium Rajko Mitic for the first leg on Wednesday night.
Red Star Belgrade head into the match off an emphatic 6-0 win over Radnik in the Serbian Superliga on Friday last week. They have now won all their opening four league matches, scoring 17 times while conceding just one in the process, and now lead the Superliga with two points in the clear of second-placed Vojcodina.
Dejan Stankovic’s side will now be looking to continue in their winning ways on Wednesday as they seek start their hunt for a place in the group stage of the continental showpiece on a positive note. They are unbeaten at home in their last 22 matches and should be confident of extending the run.
Meanwhile, Pyunik Yerevan began their qualification campaign in the first round knocking out CFR Cluj 4-3 on penalties in the first round and Dudelange 4-2 on aggregate in the second round, and will be keen to keep the ball rolling in their quest for a place in group stage.
They however, are coming off a 1-0 loss to FC Ararat in Armenian top-flight opener at home last Saturday. They will look to put behind their league opener disappointment and focus on continuing they Champions League qualification campaign, but are clear underdogs for this tie.
