Red Star Belgrade vs Ferencvaros Match Analysis and Prediction

Red Star Belgrade and Ferencvaros go head to head in the Europa League on Thursday with the two sides having experienced contrsting fortunes in Group H.

While the hosts currently occupy bottom place without a single point and just one goal, their vistors find themselves in top spot with two impressive victories.

Having reached the last 16 of this competition in 2021-22, Red Star would have had high hopes of making similar progress this season after being drawn in a favourable group.

However, having suffered defeats to Monaco and Trabzonspor, each by one-goal margins, Milos Milojevic’s side are left as outsiders to secure a spot in the knockout rounds.

Red Star have managed to make a strong domestic form with nine goals being scored and just one conceded in their last four matches, all of which ended in victories.

However, those results are to be expected, and Milijevic needs a performance out of his players on Thursday if he wants to keep the fans onside at the Rajko Mitic Stadium.

Goals have been shared around this squad during this campaign with no player scoring more than four times in the Serbian top flight, Mirko Ivanic and Osman Bukari currently topping the scoring charts.

Meanwhile, Ferencvaros have been impressive so far this campaign, particularly in defeating Monaco on away territory last time out, with Baliant Vecsei’s 79th-minute goal proving the difference against the Ligue 1 giants.

Despite initially being a team least fancied in the group, they have an opportunity to effectively guarantee European football after Christmas in Belgrade on Thursday.

However, Ferencvaros’ seven-game winning run across all competitions came to an end on Saturday as they went down to a surprise 2-0 defeat at the hands of Kecskemeti, opponents who have now been elevated into second place in the Hungarian top flight.

Red Star Belgrade news

Red Star will take to the pitch without Kings Kangwa, who is suspended for being dismissed for two yellow cards in the game against Trabzonspor.

Ivanic could be brought into the side in central midfield, while Aleksandar Katari is an option on the flank should Milojevic move to a three-man attack.

Ferencvaros news

Ferencvaros will be able to call upon Eldar Civic after the left-back served his one-game suspension for his sending off against Trabzonspor on matchday one.

Cherchesov could revert back to the side which impressed against Monaco, while Franck Boli will hope to earn a recall in place of Ryan Mmaee in attack.

Prediction and Odds

Despite their respective spots in the group, this game should be far more competitive than many will expect it to be.

Although the visitors are the team in form, Red Star are far stronger at their home turf, and we envisage a competitive share of the spoils being played out in Serbia.
