Red Bull Salzburg will go head to head with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night in their first leg of the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League with kickoff at 23:00.
RB Salzburg have quickly become one of Europe’s most lauded teams and they will be making history on Wednesday night when they make their first-ever appearance in the last-16 of the Champions League. They came through as runners-up in Group G after claiming 10 points from their six matches, including three wins, a draw and two defeats.
Matthias Jaissle’s men head into the match in a brilliant form as they have won all their last six matches across all competitions and look well poised to retain their Austrian Bundesliga title as they lead the table with 14 points in the clear.
They are also in a good home form as they as are unbeaten in their last 19 home matches, with a five-match winning streak and they will feel confident to dish out a bloody nose to Bayern Munich as they look to extend their life in the competition.
Bayern Munich on the other hand, strolled through their group stage campaign with six wins out of six matches and are among the three teams alongside Liverpool and Ajax who boasted a perfect pool record.
However, Julian Nagelsmann’s side suffered a shocking 4-2 defeat to Bochum in the Bundesliga last weekend with a brace from Polish superstar Robert Lewandowski proving to be a mere consolation for the European giants.
Therefore they will be looking to bounce back from their weekend’s disappointment at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night as they aim at going all the way through this around having been knockout out in the quarter-finals by PSG last season.
