Real Madrid welcome Paris Saint-Germain to Santiago Bernabeu for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday night with kickoff at 23:00.
As expected the first leg of this fixture was fought closely with a Kylian Mbappe strike in the last embers of the match separating the two titans. Lionel Messi was denied by Thibaut Courtois from the penalty spot earlier in the game.
Carlo Ancellotti’s side have since responded well to the setback with three consecutive wins, including the 4-1 success over Real Sociedad on Saturday after going down inside the opening 10 minutes. They are also welcoming PSG to the Bernabeu at a good time, with the La Liga leaders embarking on a 13-match unbeaten run on home soil since defeat to Sheriff Tiraspol back in September.
Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino’s side did not prepare for the second leg in ideal fashion as they suffered two defeats in three Ligue 1 matches. They are coming off a 1-0 defeat to now second-placed Nice with substitute Andy Delort sealing the deal for Les Aiglons, who have now defeated Les Parisiens’ in their last two meetings.
It would still take a collapse of monumental proportions for PSG to lose their grip on the Ligue 1 title, but a few lowly performances on the road have done Pochettino no favours ahead of the second leg, with neither the Bernabeu pitch nor the Bernabeu faithful particularly welcoming.
However, they hold the 1-0 advantage over Real Madrid, but will be fully aware that the tie is not dead and buried just yet, especially with Pochettino failing to win any of his four away games in the Champions League.
Also, Madrid are unbeaten in their last three home games against PSG and we are backing them to edge their visitors on Wednesday night.
