RB Leipzig’s search for their first Champions League win continues this Wednesday when they welcome Paris St Germain to Red Bull Arena for a crucial matchday four fixture with kickoff at 23:00.
It has been a difficult start to Leipzig’s continental campaign as they have lost all their opening three matches and currently sit at the bottom of Group A with zero points four points behind third-placed Club Brugge, meaning Leipzig will still be stuck at the bottom no matter what transpires in the match.
They opened their campaign with a 6-3 thumping at Man City, then suffered a decimal 2-1 defeat to Club Brugge in their second match before going down 3-2 to Paris St Germain in their last Champions League fixture with Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi condemning them to a tricky situation with only games left to go.
Leipzig have not had it easy in their domestic campaign either as they have inconsistent recording four wins, three draws and three defeats in their 10 matches. They currently sit in the eighth spot on 15 points and are off a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend. However, Jesse Marsch’s side is expected to give PSG a good run for their money again as they aim at maintaining their three-match unbeaten run.
Meanwhile Paris St Germain have made a strong start to their continental campaign as they are the only side that remains unbeaten in Group A recording two wins and a draw in their opening three matches. They currently head the group with seven points but just a point above fellow group favorites Manchester City in the second.
PSG opened their Champions League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Club Brugge, the followed the vital 2-0 win against Man City at home in their second game before coming from behind to win 3-2 in the thrilling clash against their Wednesday’s hosts in the reserve fixture. They head into the fourth group fixture with a win a mind as they know a win will surely clinch they qualification.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side have also made a strong domestic campaign as they have only dropped five points in the available 36 so far and are seven points clear at the top of the standings and are coming off a 2-1 win against the champions in their last match where they had to fight for the win from behind again.
The win extended their unbeaten run to four matches now and Pochettino will want his side to keep the momentum going as they look to seal a top two finish.
