Wycombe Wanderers vs Cheltenham Town Match Analysis & Prediction
27/02/2024 10:45 pm
Looking to move themselves away from any late-season worries at the bottom of the division, Wycombe Wanderers will take on relegation-threatened Cheltenham Town at Adams Park on Tuesday night in League One.
Following a memorable night at Valley Parade in the EFL Trophy semi-final against Bradford City last Wednesday, Wycombe returned to League One action on Saturday, falling short at the Lamex Stadium against top-six hopefuls Stevenage.
Before Sam Vokes was denied what was arguably a clear penalty in the final stages of the game, Wycombe were breached in the 23rd-minute by centre-back Carl Piergianni, who was set up to win the match for Boro by his backline compatriot Daniel Sweeney.
With an EFL Trophy final tie with Peterborough United coming at Wembley Stadium on April 7, Matt Bloomfield’s side now have nine straight League One matches to focus on as they bid to secure their third-tier safety, currently sitting five points above the relegation zone in 15th.
Meanwhile, Cheltenham’s survival charge continued to gain momentum at the weekend at the DW Stadium, forcing a share of the spoils against fellow strugglers Wigan, although it could well have been four straight league wins for the visiting Robins.
Scoring on the fourth occasion in five matches since joining from Forest Green Rovers in January, Matt Taylor put the Robins ahead, but the Latics were able to equalise in the second half through an unfortunate own goal from midfielder Elliot Bonds.
After going eight matches without scoring at the beginning of the campaign – while managing just a single point during that time – Cheltenham looked destined for a return to League Two, but 10 points from their last four matches has allwed them to move to within one point of 20th-placed Charlton Athletic.
Wycombe Wanderers vs. Cheltenham Town Head to head
In the 26 previous meetings between these two teams, Wycombe have claimed eight victories while Cheltenham have won seven, and they have drawn in 11. They have each scored 39 goals in the process.
