Lens vs Clermont Match Analysis & Prediction
20/04/2024 10:00 pm
Europe-chasing Lens are desperate to return to winning ways in Ligue 1 whe they play host to bottom side Clermont Foot at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis on Saturday.
Lens’ successive wins over Lyon and Brest at the start of March bade well for the Blood and Gold, but a winless run has followed since the mini-revival that came after a four-game streak without victory across all competitions.
Noteworthy about the ongoing run is the three defeats in four matches that have seen Franck Haise’s side slide to sixth position in the table.
Even more disappointing for Lens have been losses to Nice and Lille, the clubs directly above them in the standings, and the inability to beat relegation-threatened Le Havre (1-1) or Metz (2-1).
With another club battling for survival set to visit Northern France this weekend, Lens seek maximum points to end their current streak of undesirable results and ward off the threat of seventh-placed Lyon, who could overtake Les Sang et Or if they are beaten and the Kids defeat Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.
It remains to be seen if Clermont inflict more home misery on the sixth-placed club, with the visitors going into this weekend with the second-worst away record (11 points) in Ligue 1.
With just two wins away from Clermont-Ferrand in 2023-24, Pascal Gastien’s side have underperformed this season, having ended the previous campaign in eighth position.
This season has not been kind to the visitors, whose last victory on their travels came in a 2-1 win at Nantes in January, with Jim Allevinah scoring an 89th-minute winner.
Since that triumph, the Lancers have scored just two goals in Ligue 1 – in a 3-1 defeat at Rennes and a creditable draw at PSG on April 6 – underscoring their ongoing struggles to find the back of the net.
Lens vs. Clermont Head to head
In the 27 previous meetings between these two teams, Lens have claimed 13 victories while Clermont have won four, and they have drawn in 10. Clermont have scored 26 goals and conceded 45 in the process.

Lens Team News
Salis Abdul Samed (ankle) and Jimmy Cabot (knee) are not expected to play any part for Lens for a while due to their injuries.
Despite the team’s challenges to secure home wins in 2024, Elye Wahi has scored three times in the recent five matches at Stade Bollaert-Delelis, and the young striker hopes to come up trumps on Saturday.
