Plymouth Argyle vs Cheltenham Town Match Analysis and Prediction

Plymouth Argyle will host Cheltenham Town on Tuesday looking to record their sixth successive victory in League One.

The hosts are currently fourth in the standings, while Cheltenham occupy 12th position having recently put together a two-game winning run.

Following Ryan Lowe’s departure to Preston North End, Plymouth supporters had no reason to be downbeat, but Steven Schumacher has done a good job to keep the club competing for promotion to the Championship.

They have picked up 35 points from 18 matches, the fourth-best return in the division, which has left them in the fourth spot ahead of the run-in.

Plymouth are currently trailing leaders Rotherham United by nine points, but their game in hand and current form has ensured they have reason to be looking over their shoulder.

Since the Millers’ last defeat, which came against Rotherham on February 26, they have recorded five victories in a row without conceding a goal, the latest coming by a 4-0 scoreline against Acrrington Stanley.

Ryan Hardie has found the back of the net in four of those fixtures, taking his tally for the season to 16 goals from 33 appearances.

On the other hand, Cheltenham are merely playing for pride with the club sitting 17 points adrift of the playoff with just eight matches remaining.

Coincidentally, they sit 17 points above the relegation zone, but Michael Duff can be more than satisfied with the club’s first year back in the division.

With that fact, he will want their current form to continue, having collected nine points from a possible 12 with their only defeat coming against promotion-chasing MK Dons.

The Robins head into this contest off the back of successive 3-1 victories against Morecambe and AFC Wimbledon respectively, Callum Wright and Alfie May getting their names on the scoresheet on both occasions.

Plymouth Argyle news

Following their 4-0 victory against Accrington Stanley at the weekend, manager Schumacher is not likely to make changes to his squad for Tuesday’s game.

However, he made remarks about the impact of Niall Ennis from the substitutes’ bench, and the forward is likely to take the place of Jordan Garrick.

Cheltenham Town news

In the Cheltenham’s victory at the weekend, Aaron Ramsey provided an assist and George Llyod scored, leaving the pair in contention to earn a recall to the starting lineup.

With Charlie Colkett also being on the pitch on Saturday, the trio could take the places of Elliot Bonds, Andy Williams and Liam Serecombe.

Prediction and Odds

With both teams currently being in strong form, particularly the hosts, this has the potential to be a tight contest, with either side being capable of winning.

However, we are chosing to back Plymouth, who should have enough quality to overcome their visitors and see out this contest during the finals stages.
