Man U vs Tottenham Match Analysis & Prediction
21/04/2024 2:00 pm
On Sunday, Manchester United Women will play host to Tottenham Hotspur Ladies at Leigh Sports Village Stadium in a dress rehearsal of next month’s Women’s FA Cup Final.
The hosts currently occupy fourth position in the Women’s Super League standings, while Spurs are six points adrift of sixth place.
Man United will head into Sunday’s contest in a positive mood after they edges out Chelsea in last Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final.
Lucia Garcia and Rachel Williams both found the net in the opening 25 minutes, before Lauren James halved the deficit in first-half stoppage time.
The Red Devils will now turn their attention back to league action, where they have struggled for consistency, having won nine, drawn four and lost five of their 18 WSL matches.
As a result, Man United are sitting in fourth position and nine points adrift of the top three with four games left to play against Spurs, Leicester City, Liverpool and Chelsea.
Their current focus will be on continuing their fine run of home form, having won each of their last six competitive matches at Leigh Sports Village Stadium.
Tottenham will meet Man United in next month’s FA Cup final at Wembley after they came from behind to beat Leicester City in their semi-final tie.
Leicester’s Jutta Rantala opened the scoring in the first half, before Jess Naz scored an 83rd-minute equaliser to send the tie to extra time.
Just as the tie appeared to be heading towards penalties, Martha Thomas scored a 118th-minute winner to lead Spurs to their first FA Cup final appearance.
Like Man United, Spurs are dreaming of winning their first major trophy, but they must now turn their attention to their next three league matches before they head to Wembley on May 12.
Having collected 25 points from 17 matches, Spurs have already surpassed last season’s tally by seven points, highlighting the progress that they have made in Robert Vilahamn’s first season in charge.
