Man U vs Leicester City Match Analysis & Prediction
15/10/2023 2:00 pm
Manchester United Women will be looking to extend their unbeaten start to the season when they host Leicester City Women at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the visitors will be looking to maintain their 100% record after winning their opening two Women’s Super League matches.
Man United manager Marc Skinner will be content with his side’s start to the season, having seen his team win one and draw two of their opening three matches across all competitions.
After coming from behind to defeat Aston Villa in their league opener, Man United were on course to make ito two wins from two when they took a 2-1 lead against Arsenal through goals from Leah Galton and Melvine Malard, but Cloe Lacasse’s stoppage-time equaliser denied the Red Devils all three points.
Skinner’s side were back in action in midweek for the first leg of their Champions League qualifying tie against French giants Paris Saint-Germain.
They played out a 1-1 draw in their first-ever Women’s Champions League match after Malard came off the bench to cancel out Tabitha Chawinga’s 53rd-minute opener.
While the Red Devils will have one eye on Wednesday’s second leg in Paris, their initial priority will be to extend their unbeaten run in the WSL to 10 games.
After being involved in a relegation battle in both of the last two seasons, Leicester will now be setting their aspirations a little higher following their positive start to the campaign.
Willie Kirk’s side kicked off the season with a 4-2 victory over newly-promoted Bristol City, before they secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Everton last weekend through Lena Petermann’s second-half goal.
That result ensured the Foxes finished matchday two as just one of two sides – alongside Liverpool – that are yet to drop points this season.
Leicester continued their fine start to the season in midweek after goals from Aimee Palmer and Hannah Cain guided them to a 2-1 victory over Liverpool in the League Cup.
The Foxes will now turn their attention back to WSL action, and they will be looking to pick up their first Women’s Super League point against Man United, after losing their previous four meetings in the competition.
