Leyton Orient vs Blackpool Match Analysis & Prediction
27/02/2024 10:45 pm
Two teams targeting a playoff spot will meet at the Gaughan Group Stadium on Tuesday when Leyton Orient play host to Blackpool for a League One encounter.
The hosts are in ninth position and six points adrift of the top six, while the visitors are two points better off in eighth place.
Leyton Orient will carry some momentum into the midweek contest after they came from a goal down to overcome Oxford United in Saturday’s away encounter.
After going into the interval with a one-goal deficit, Leyton restored parity within six minutes of the restart through Ollie O’Neill’s second goal for the club, before George Moncur scored the winning goal to secure all three points.
Although they lost to Burton Albion in their most recent home match, Richie Wellens’ side can draw inspiration from the fact that they have won four of their previous six matches on home turf.
Meanwhile, Blackpool will travel to the capital off the back of an eventful three-game period, where they secured league wins either side of a defeat in the EFL Trophy semi-final.
After beating Portsmouth United in a league victory, Blackpool lost 3-0 to the Posh in the EFL Trophy just a few days later, bringing an end to their hopes of winning the competition for the first time in 20 years.
The Tangerines ultimately recovered from that disappointment to come from behind to beat 10-man Bolton Wanderers 4-1 through a Jake Beesley brace as well as efforts from Marvin Ekpiteta and Jordan Lawrence-Gabriel.
Not only did that victory extend their unbeaten home run to seven league matches, but it also moved them to within four points of the top six.
Neil Critchley’s side will need to improve on their travels if they are to secure a playoff spot, having picked up just 16 of their 53 points from their away matches.
Leyton Orient vs. Blackpool Head to head
In the 14 previous meetings between these two teams, Leyton have claimed two victories while Blackpool have won 10, and they have drawn in two. Blackpool have scored 27 goals and conceded 13 in the process.
