14/10/2023 8:00 pm
African heavyweights Ivory Coast and Morocco will meet in an international friendly game at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny on Saturday.
Both sides have suffered just one defeat since the turn of the year, and this weekend’s match promises to be a keenly-contested affair.
Cote d’Ivoire saw their match against the Eagles of Mali at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium on September 12 end abruptly due to weather problems.
The Indomitable Lions were in the ascendancy for large spells of the game but failed to break the deadlock before the match’s cancellation at half time.
However, Jean-Louis Gasset’s side did emerge victorious in their most recent competitive game as they beat Lesotho 1-0 in their final AFCON qualifier.
Ahead of another high-profile match against South Africa three days later, Ivory Coast now go in search of a morale-boosting victory in front of their fans.
Meanwhile, Moroccoa got the better of Burkina Faso through a narrow 1-0 scoreline when the teams met at Estadio Bollaert-Delelis on September 12.
The Atlas Lions got themselves ahead 10 minutes shy of the half time whistle through Azzedine Ounahi and that was enough to get the job done.
This came off the back of a 2-1 defeat for Walid Regragui’s side in their second-last Africa Cup of Nations qualifying game against South Africa.
With their final AFCON qualifier against Liberia to come, Morocco will be aiming to secure successive wins for the first time since the 2022 World Cup.
