Heerenveen vs FC Twente Match Analysis & Prediction

01/06/2023 7:45 pm

Heerenveen and FC Twente will be looking to take one step closer to securing a spot in the Conference League playoffs when they meet at the Abe Lenstra Stadion on Thursday.
With the sides scheduled to face off again three days later, both will be keen to steal an early march ahead of the return leg in Enschede.
Heerenveen extended their unbeaten run to four matches through a 2-0 victory over Go Ahead Eagles in Sunday’s season finale.
Having collected 46 points from their 34 league matches, Kees van Wonderen did enough to secure eighth place in the standings, finishing five points clear of nearest challengers RKC Waalwijk.
Aiming to pick up successive wins on home soil for only the first time since January, Heerenveen know that anything less than a victory here would leave them at a huge disadvantage heading into Sunday’s second leg.
Twente drew the curtain on their league campaign by beating Ajax 3-1 in the teams’ encounter at De Grolsch Veste on Sunday.
A run of four straight wins to end the season has seen Twente finish fifth in the Eredivisie table, just three points behind AZ Alkmaar in the race for the final automatic European place.
Next up is the challenge of an opposing side with little to pick between the teams of late as the last nine encounters have yielded two wins apiece and five draws.
Currently on a run of four clean sheets in their last five away matches, Ron Jans’ side will be seeking to keep things tight at the back en route to another positive result on the road.

In the 63 previous meetings between these two teams, Heerenveen have claimed 21 victories while Twente have won 26, and they have drawn in 16. Twente have scored 100 goals and conceded 88 in the process.
