The 2022-23 Eredivisie season resumes with Emmen and FC Volendam clashing at De Oude Meerdijk on Friday evening with kickoff at 9 pm.
FC Emmen lost 3-1 to Sparta Rotterdam at the Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel on Saturday. Dick Lukkien’s men trailed at halftime after Vito van Crooy scored.
However, they equalized through Ole Romeny. Goals from Bart Vriends and Mario Engels put the hosts in front, and although FC Emmen pulled another goal back through Elneny Tamba late on, it was not enough to avoid a seventh consecutive defeat on the road.
Consequently, Lukkien’s side remains bottom of the Eredivisie but three points off safety after nine games. They will face an opponent who has won just once out of nine meetings against them across all competitions.
On Saturday, Volendam lost 4-2 to defending champions Ajax. Dusan Tadic, Calvin Bassey, and Brian Brobbey scored for the Eredivisie leaders, who left Wim Jonk’s men with a mountain to climb.
However, Lequincio Zeefuik and Carel Eiting scored late goals to set up a frantic finale in which Davy Klaassen put the final nail in the coffin. With five points from 27 this season, Het Andere Oranje remains rooted to the foot of the league table—albeit only on goal difference.
