Germany vs Japan Match Analysis & Prediction
23/11/2022 12:00 am
Germany begins their World Cup 2022 campaign with a Group E clash against Japan at the Khalifa International Stadium on Wednesday, seeking to consign memories of Russia 2018 to history. Die Mannschaft was eliminated from the group stage four years ago, while their Asian counterparts were on the verge of stunning Belgium in the last 16 before being eliminated.
The World Cup defense of the reigning champions is usually fraught with danger, and Germany was familiar with this as they crashed out at the first hurdle in Russia.
Defeat to England in their last 16 game marked the end of coach Joachim Low’s tenure, and Hansi Flick took over as German manager.
The team which reached the semi-finals of the 2018 European Championships will be going under the radar as Argentina and Brazil are favourites for this year’s competition in South Africa.
The Germans have had a poor record of just two wins from their last eight games, but a 1-0 win over Oman in a warm-up friendly last Wednesday may give them confidence that they can impact this year’s tournament.
Japan’s Takashi Inui scored a stunning first-half goal to put the Samurai Blue ahead against Belgium, but the Red Devils struck three times in a devastating 20-minute spell to knock Japan out of the 2018 World Cup.
Japan has made several early exits from the World Cup in their six previous tournaments since 1998 and don’t look likely to go any further than the last 16 this time, although they did win all 18 of their qualifying games and score 58 goals in the process.
They lost 2-1 to Canada in their friendly before their opening encounter with Colombia, and they have only won five games from 21 attempts in World Cup finals matches.

Japan Team News
Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu has concerns over the fitness of Hidemasa Morita and Takehiro Tomiyasu. Arsenal right-back Tomiyasu was rested against Canada following his recent muscular problem but should be fine to take his place in the team here, most likely alongside 122-cap skipper Maya Yoshida in the heart of the defence.
