Arsenal vs Leicester City Match Analysis & Prediction
21/04/2024 4:00 pm
Arsenal Women will be looking to secure a fourth successive victory across all competitions when they host Leicester City in Sunday’s Women’s Super League match.
The Gunners are currently sitting in third position in the WSL standings, while the Foxes will head into the weekend in ninth place.
Arsenal have recorded three successive victories since suffering a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea in last month’s WSL encounter at Stamford Bridge.
The began their fine run of form with a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa, before they secured a 1-0 extra-time win over Chelsea in the League Cup final.
After winning silverware at the end of March, Arsenal returned from the international break with a dominant 5-0 victory over bottom side Bristol City through braces from Beth Mead and Alessia Russo as well as an Ella Powell own goal.
That result mover the Gunners nine points clear of fourth-placed Manchester United, leaving them well-placed to secure Champions League qualification.
Arsenal still have a mathematical chance of winning the WSL title, with six points separating them from Man City and Chelsea ahead of the final four matches of the season.
Jonas Eidevall’s side will hope to keep their faint title hopes alive by securing a ninth successive home league victory in Sunday’s encounter with Leicester.
Meanwhile, Leicester will have to pick themselves up after experiencing disappointment in last Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final tie against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Foxes led for the majority of the match after Finland international Jutta Rantala opened the scoring in the 12th minute.
However, they were unable to hold onto their narrow advantage as Jess Naz equalised in the 83rd minute to send the tie to extra time, before Martha Thomas netted a 118th-minute winner to quash Leicester’s cup dreams.
They will now turn their focus back to league matters, with Leicester set to wrap up the campaign with matches against Arsenal, Manchester United, West Ham United and Liverpool.
