Nottingham Forest vs Huddersfield Town Match Analysis and Prediction

Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield Town take a break from the Championship on Monday to face each other in the FA Cup fifth round.

While both teams come into the match with unbeaten runs of their own, Huddersfield find themselves gone for 18 matches without a defeat across all competitions.

At the start of the season, it could rarely be predicted that Forest and Huddersfield would be two of the form teams heading into March, particularly the Terriers after narrowly avoiding relegation in 2020-21.

However, since Steve Cooper took over as Nottingham head coach on September 21, these two sides are second and third respectively.

Huddersfield are now second, having played several matches more than all of their rivals, and Nottingham are eighth, but the form showcases the consistency that Cooper and Carlos Corberan have brought to their respective teams.

Nottingham were in action on Friday night, overcoming the disappointment of a missed penalty to secure a last-gasp 1-1 draw at promotion rivals Sheffield United.

The East Midlands outfit remain as outsiders to secure a top six position come the end of the season, but Ryan Yates’ last goal provides them with morale and momentum ahead of attempting to set up a meeting with Liverpool.

Cooper’s side have already defeated Premier League opposition in two occasions this season, eliminating Arsenal in the third round before defeating Leicester City 4-1 in the last 32.

On Friday night, Huddersfield had an easy job of defeating bottom-placed Peterborough United, prevailing by a 3-0 scoreline to secure their fourth successive victory in the league.

Carlos Corberan’s side now have nine wins and seven draws from their last 16 Championship matches, but there is still a lot of work ahead if they are to remain in contention for a return to the Premier League next season.

Nottingham Forest news

Nottingham will call upon goalkeeper Brice Samba who has completed a three-match ban for his red card against Stoke City last month.

Max Lowe will also return at left wing-back having been ineligible to face his parent club on Friday, potentially leaving Jack Colback to drop down to the sustitutes’ bench.

Huddersfield Town news

Corberan may choose to bring in some fresh legs on Monday, while Levi Colwill is expected to be absent for Huddersfield due to testing positive for coronavirus.

Carel Eiting and Jonathan Hogg are both options in midfield, and Pipa could be in contention should Corberan opt to revert to a back three.

Prediction and Odds

Huddersfield have been in an impressive form in the recent weeks, making it difficult to back against them.

However, Nottingham have recently been good at home and after previously eliminating two Premier League outfits, we believe they will be confident enough to edge out their opponents and pick up a victory.
