Nacional will host Union at the Gran Parque Ventral Stadium in the first leg of their Copa Sudamericana last 16 tie on Tuesday night.
Nacional missed out on the last of the Copa Libertadores after finishing third in Group C on seven points from six games. However, a final day victory over Bragantino of Brazil saw them earn place in the last 16 of the Copa Sudamericana and they will be looking to go all through to the final.
Since their 3-0 over Bragantino on May 25, the Uruguayans have been in a brilliant form winning four of their last five league games, winning the last three in a row. They will now be looking to build on the form as they seek an advantage over Union en route to the quarter-finals of the competition, and having won their last four home games by an aggregate score of 11-0, Pablo Aquino’s side are well-placed to get the job done and secure a first-leg advantage.
Meanwhile Union managed to book their place in the last 16 of the Copa Sudamericana after finishing top of Group H on 12 points from six matches, just a point above second-placed Fluminense. It was all thanks to a final group day 4-0 away victory over Atletico Junior on May 27.
Since then Union Santa Fe have won two, lost two and drawn one of their last five league games, which is not that encouraging. However, they are off a confidence boosting 2-1 away win over Boca Juniors and will be looking to build on the massive win as they look to gain the upper hand in the first leg.
Gustavo Munua’s side has also been good at away recently going unbeaten in their last four on the road games, a run they will be keen to extend on Tuesday.
