Crystal Palace will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they visit The Den to take on the Championship outfit Millwall in the FA Cup third round on Saturday afternoon with kickoff at 15:45.
Millwall have been pushing for a promotion this season but have also been struggling with inconsistency this season and as result they are 11th in the table with seven points outside the top six. The side ended 2021 in poor form as they won just from seven and they kicked off 2022 in the worst possible way as they surrendered their 2-1 lead against Bristol City on 2nd with Bristol winning 3-2 on the day.
Millwall will now turn their focus to the FA Cup looking to use the match a distraction from their league struggles as they aim at a positive result which will be important in boosting their confidence before returning to the Championship action. The Lions do not do third round exits from the FA cup very often and have advanced past this stage in each of their last five seasons and Gary Rowett will be hoping that they can that momentum going.
Meanwhile Crystal Palace have been off and on their Premier League campaign this season with the club managing to collect 23 points from 20 league matches and currently are 11th in the top flight standings with 10 points outside the top six.
Like their opponents Palace also opened 2022 in the worst way as they suffered a 3-2 defeat to West Ham United at home on New Year’s Eve. The defeat continued their inconsistency as they seem to not have the grip of putting together wins recently with club dropping and collecting points in an alternating manner in their last six matches.
Palace will also view this match as a perfect distraction from the Premier League action and will want to use it as pivot on which they can build up momentum. However, Crystal failed to advance past this stage in the competition with Wolves and Derby County knocking them out in the last two seasons and they will want to turn tables this time around.
