Middlesbrough host Premier League outfits Tottenham Hotspur at the Riverside Stadium in the last-16 of the FA on Tuesday night with kickoff at 22:45.
Middlesbrough overcame Mansfield Town 3-2 at away in the third round of the competition before causing an upset in the fourth round as they saw off top-tier rivals Manchester United with an 8-7 victory in penalties following a dramatic 1-1 draw in the regulation time.
However, since the victory Boro have been inconsistent in the Championship claiming two wins, a draw and two defeats in their last five league matches and are coming off a 3-2 away defeat to Barnsley on Saturday saw Chris Wilder’s side fail to break into the playoffs berth.
They will therefore be looking to return to the winning ways in this match as they aim at extending their life in the tournament and gain momentum and confidence they need back in the Championship. They will surely draw confidence from their high performance display in the last round against United.
Meanwhile Tottenham cruised to a 3-1 victory in their third round tie against third-tier outfits Morecambe before seeing out fellow Premier League outfits Brighton with another 3-1 victory at Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
Since the victory the capital club has been blowing hot and cold, having won two while suffered three defeats in their last five Premier League matches. However, they head into the match in high spirits following a 4-0 stroll to victory at Leeds on Saturday.
Antonio Conte’s side will now be looking to build their momentum with another positive result on Tuesday, as they also aim at bringing their long wait for silverware to an end. They will fancy their chances as they have an extra quality over their opponents and are unbeaten in their last five encounters against Middlesbrough.
